Republic of Ireland fans will be presented with an outstanding contribution award from UEFA ahead of next Thursday's Aviva Stadium clash with Georgia.

A commemorative plaque will be handed over to a selected group of supporters, who will accept the trophy on behalf of the Green Army.

The Irish fans once again earned widespread praise for the colour and camaraderie they brought to a major tournament.

Ireland exited the tournament  after a 2-1 defeat to host nation France in the last 16.

“I am delighted UEFA have decided to award our supporters with this accolade," said FAI chief executive John Delaney.

"The Ireland supporters were an absolute credit to our country at EURO 2016.

“The colour, atmosphere and support they brought was something we were immensely proud of, and the scenes inside each of the four match venues will live long in the memory.

“The supporters selected to receive the award are perfect ambassadors and I look forward to the presentation ceremony next Thursday at the Aviva Stadium.”
