Armin Aganovic scored his first Galway United goal as the Tribesmen defeated Bohemians at Eamonn Deacy Park in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Galway, who hadn’t registered a win since defeating Dundalk on 5 August, eked out a victory with Aganovic’s 66th minute strike proving decisive.

Tommy Dunne’s team had been frustrated initially by Bohemians goalkeeper Shane Supple, who made a string of good saves.

But Galway’s perseverance was rewarded when Aganovic and Kevin Devaney netted in the second half to secure the full complement of spoils.

Though Bohemians started brightly it was Galway who went close in the eighth minute when Enda Curran was denied by a fine  save from Supple.

At the opposite end Bohemians’ Dean O’Halloran and Kurtis Byrne were dashing about craving involvement for the Gypsies.

Still for all Bohemians’ enterprise it was Galway who were creating opportunities with Supple called into action more than once.

The former Ipswich man made an excellent stop to deny Galway skipper Ryan Connolly in the 26th minute following a sweet Curran flick.

Minutes later Supple was alert once more when thwarting another Curran attempt as Galway were eager to land a blow before the break.

That didn’t happen, ensuring Galway departed frustrated at the interval with Bohemians content to be on terms.

After the restart Bohemians came within a whisker of taking a 59th minute lead when Kurtis Byrne released Paddy Kavanagh, but his shot struck the woodwork.

But Galway scored in the 66th minute as Aganovic swept home the loose ball when a Connolly free kick spilled kindly for him in the area.

Eight minutes from time Devaney sealed the deal with a powerful finish which rattled the Bohemians net.

With Aganovic and Stephen Folan impressive at the back Galway remained solid in the closing stages to claim a deserved success.
