Cork City and Shamrock Rovers meet for the second time in a week tonight, following the 5-0 hammering the Rebels dished out in their FAI Cup quarter-final meeting in Tallaght.

That was the Hoops' biggest defeat since moving to their new home in 2009.

John Caulfield’s second-placed side will be looking to close the ten-point gap on SSE Airtricity League Premier Division leaders Dundalk, with the first of two games in hand.

Cork have now scored 18 goals in four wins on the bounce and will be confident of taking three points at Turner's Cross.

“Rovers have done well and, up to last Friday night, they were on a good run, but sometimes that can happen in the cup," said Caulfield.

"We did very well, but I would expect a massive reaction from them and a totally different game.”

“The most important thing for us is to try and perform the way we did last Friday night, even though we know Rovers will be much better, and to try and keep putting points on the board. We want to close the gap and stay in there for the run-in.”

“We’re in the run-in, there’s a league title at stake and I think we will have a big crowd. We had a couple of games where we were missing chances but, over the last four games, we have been taking them and the confidence is back, the form of the attackers is back and that changes things.

"I am hoping that our form over the last four matches is a good omen and that we can keep it going for the run-in.”

Cork's Dave Mulcahy is available having been cup-tied last week, but Alan Smith and John Dunleavy remain long-term absentees.  Alan Bennett and Steven Beattie have ongoing knocks, with both set to be assessed closer to kick-off.

Rovers are in fourth place in the table, battling for Europa League qualification. They trail third-placed Derry by two points but have a game in hand.

Evan Osam and Craig Hyland remain out through injury, though Hyland hopes to return to action in two weeks' time.

Sean Boyd and Patrick Cregg are suspended.

Galway United v Bohemians, 7.45pm

Bohs manager Keith Long is targeting a first victory away to Galway United since September 2011 as the Gypsies look to push up the league table.

Just one point separates Bohemians in seventh and the Tribesman in eighth. Their three meetings so far this season have seen a win each (in the FAI Cup for Bohs) and a 1-1 draw.

Long said: "They're once place below us in the league, so we have to go down there and get a result.

"There hasn't been a lot between the sides this season. Between the league and cup, we've won one, lost one and drawn one.

"At home, we've had the upper hand against them this season and last. But we want to redress our record away from home."

Bohs are once again without Ismahil Akinade through illness, but are hopeful he may be ready again for Monday's visit of Wexford Youths to Dalymount Park.

The Gypsies must also plan without defenders Derek Prendergast and Lorcan Fitzgerald through suspension. But skipper Derek Pender returns after a three-week lay-off with a thigh injury.

Galway lost 1-0 at home to Shamrock Rovers last week and manager Tommy Dunne expects a response from his side.

"It's always a difficult game against Bohemians, that's to be expected. It's a big game game for us," he said.

"We've certainly been there or thereabouts in recent games, we just need to eradicate a few silly errors and we need to start scoring goals again. It's putting us under pressure because we're not taking our chances.

"We need to go again and continue to improve on our home form. There isn't a huge amount of league games left, so we've got to try and pick up as many points as we can."

José Garcia continues to be Galway United's only absentee.

Finn Harps v Longford Town, 8pm

Finn Harps play host to bottom side Longford hoping to record a first win since July and maintain their distance from the relegation zone.

Harps have already beaten Longford twice this season and securing a hat-trick of wins could improve the five-point lead they currently hold over 11th placed Wexford Youths.

“We have been on 23 points for the last two months and need to get something on the board, even a point on Friday night to move on to some degree," said manager Ollie Horgan.

"Despite the results the lads have never stopped working so they deserve a bit of luck to get us back on track and obviously a win is what we want against Longford” Horgan said.

Damian McNulty remains absent due a knee injury, while the manager has also ruled Ruairi Keating out after he was withdrawn on Monday night at Oriel Park with concussion. Adam Hanlon is doubtful.

Wexford Youths v Derry City, 8pm

It's another rematch at Ferrycarrig Park, where Derry will be hoping to repeat their 3-1 FAI Cup victory last Friday.

Derry boss Kenny Shiels claimed his side's travel arrangements were more taxing than Dundalk's Europa League trip to the Netherlands earlier this week but he will undoubtedly be happy to make the trip if they can maintain their two-point lead over Shamrock Rovers.

"We want to secure third spot and this game is pivotal in trying to achieve that," he told BBC Sport. "I'll be making sure the players don't take anything for granted after winning last week."

Aaron McEneff and Dean Jarvis are both suspended.

"With such a short turn around since the cup game against them its a case of trying to learn lessons from that game and implementing them," said Youths manager Shane Keegan.

"That presents an interesting challenge for us. It's the first of 3 games in 8 days that's going to have a huge bearing on how our season pans out. We're ready for it."

Shane Keegan should have a fully fit side to choose from, with Danny Furlong a slight doubt and Peter Higgins suspended.
