The Republic of Ireland's clash with Serbia in Belgrade has survived a pitch inspection and will go ahead after torrential rain threatened a postponement.
Martin O’Neill’s men kick off their World Cup qualifying Group D campaign in the Red Star Stadium at 7.45pm.
A pitch inspection took place at 6.15pm Irish time as the rain bucketed down in Belgrade.
RTÉ Soccer Correspondent Tony O'Donoghue had earlier said the pitch was checked at UEFA's organisational meeting this morning and assessed as "fine" but torrential downpours in the Serbian capital cast some doubt over the fixture.
However, after referee Viktor Kassai cast his eye over the surface, he passed it fit for purpose and the Boys in Green will begin their quest to make Russia tonight.
