Bohemians 0-2 Derry City

Goals from Harry Monaghan and Nathan Boyle saw a much changed Derry City defeat Bohemians and book their place in the FAI Cup quarter-final.

The Candystripes will be delighted with their display as their makeshift defence saw them ease past Keith Long's side.

Bohemians were forced into one change from their side which defeated Sligo Rovers, with former Derry striker Mark Quigley replacing the injured Ismahil Akinade.

As for the visitors, they made two changes with Spanish centre-back Cristian Castells coming straight into the starting line-up, while Keith Ward, Ronan Curtis and Harry Monaghan all started, with Rory Patterson, Barry McNamee and Aaron McEneff all dropping to the bench.

Bohs had the first chance of the tie as Lorcan Fitzgerald's corner from the right found an unmarked Stephen Best, but his header was easily saved by Derry keeper Gerard Doherty.

Minutes later Bohs net-minder Dean Delany was called into action as he did well to keep out Ronan Curtis' close-range strike.

Ex-Derry striker Mark Quigley was denied by the crossbar as his effort, came back off the woodwork.

Centre-back Castells' was having a nightmare debut and was substituted on 37 minutes with Ben Doherty replacing him.

Within seconds Derry took the lead as Conor McCormack's free-kick found Niclas Vemmelund. His flick-on fell perfectly to Monaghan, who gleefully turned home the loose ball.

Early in the second half Derry doubled their advantage in super fashion.

Lukas Schubert's neat pass into Boyle, saw the striker spin well inside the box, before firing home despite Delany and the post's best attempts.

Just after the hour mark, Derry went close to adding a third as Boyle's right wing cross found Curtis at the back post, but the winger's header sailed just wide.

Rory Patterson, coming on off the bench, should have added a third on 80 minutes but he blasted well over from the edge of the box.

In the closing minutes Bohs were denied by the woodwork for a second time as Paddy Kavanagh's close range strike came back off the post.

Derry went straight up the other end and Patterson was denied a certain goal as his close-range strike was cleared off the line by Derek Prendergast.
