Honours even between Derry and Cork at the Brandywell

Derry's Rory Patterson had a number of chances but couldn't break the deadlock

Derry City 0-0 Cork City

A draw was the right result as Derry City and title-chasing Cork City couldn't be separated at the Brandywell.

However, it will be visiting Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny, who was in attendance ahead of his side's Champions League play-off on Wednesday, who will be the man happiest with tonight's result.

Derry had to make a substitution just 10 minutes into the game as Patrick McClean replaced the injury Ryan McBride.

Neither keeper was really tested in the opening 45 minutes, although Kenny Shiels' side went in at half-time the happier as striker Nathan Boyle was causing Cork right-back Dave Mulcahy all sorts of problems.

Derry almost broke the deadlock just before the break but Rory Patterson's close range effort, after somewhat of a scramble, was hit straight at Cork keeper Mark McNulty.

The home side again went close on 49 minutes but Patterson's stinging drive from 25 yards flew just wide.

Cork had a chance of their own on the hour mark but Mulcahy's header from Gearoid Morrissey's centre was easily caught by Derry keeper Gerard Doherty

In a game of few real chances, Patterson had another chance on 78 minutes after good work from sub Joshua Daniels, but his drive from just inside the box flew well over.

Moments later Cork substitute Karl Sheppard's 20 yard drive flashed just wide.

Right at the death Cork had a good chance to win the game but substitute Mark O'Sullivan saw his drive straight at Doherty.
