Sligo Rovers manager Dave Robertson will set new targets for his side after the shock 2-1 win over Cork City last night at Turner’s Cross.
The Bit o’ Red continued their recent good form with a second away victory in the last four days.
They are now on 31 points – the same number as their entire 2015 season total – and Robertson is keen to see Sligo make further inroads having moved into fifth position in the table.
He told RTÉ Sport: “For me, the one thing I love about this group of players is we have our own run [of results] that we want to defend.
“Since we have come back from the break, we are unbeaten. That was five league games and friendlies against Galway and Portsmouth. Tonight makes it eight.
“We go into the game against Shamrock Rovers, who were the last team to beat us at The Showgrounds on the opening night of the season, and we're focusing on ourselves.
“Our first target was to get to 31 points because that is what the team did last year.
“We have 12 games to go now and we will sit down as a group this week and re-evaluate where we feel we can take ourselves this season.”
Robertson was thrilled with the Sligo performance as City lost their unbeaten record at home in the league after first half goals from Kieran Sadlier and Raffaele Cretaro.
A late Sean Maguire penalty proved in vein for the Rebels as the visitors hung on for three points.
The former Peterborough boss said: “First and foremost it was a fantastic performance. To be fair to Cork, they absolutely threw everything and the kitchen sink at us in the second half and we had to be really, really resilient. The only thing that broke us down was a dubious penalty but those things happen.
“They got back into it and it gave them a little bit of a lift and they threw everything at us but everyone of my players to a man were absolutely different class. They did everything that you need to do when you come away to play Cork.
“I have a lot of admiration for [Cork], they have an excellent run in European football and John Caulfield has done excellent job. To come here on the back of a good win at Wexford, and then get a result at Turner's Cross is magnificent.”
