Danny North and Maxime Blanchard have left Shamrock Rovers after both players had their contracts terminated by mutual consent.

English striker North, 28, had fruitful stints with St Pat's and Sligo Rovers before Pat Fenlon brought him to Tallaght Stadium in November 2014.

He played just 16 times for the Hoops, scoring nine goals, and will now head for pastures new.

North tweeted: "Thanks for having me at your club @ShamrockRovers, honoured to have played there.

"Unfortunately injuries have taken their toll and I'm gonna be out for a while, so made sense for both parties to part. Good luck in future, I reckon that's my time in Ireland done!"

French defender Blanchard came to Rovers in March 2015 after spells with Laval, L'Entente SSG, Moulins and Tranmere Rovers.

He re-signed with the club last December but, in the wake Fenlon's departure, the 29-year-old will also now head for a new club.

Meanwhile Dubliner Gareth McCaffrey, who came to Rovers at the same time as Blanchard, has gone on loan to First Division outfit Drogheda United for the rest of the season.
