Ryan Giggs is ending his 29-year association with Manchester United after agreeing a settlement package, according to the BBC.
Giggs, who made a record 963 appearances for the club, had one more year on his contract as assistant manager but new boss Jose Mourinho is expected to give that role to Rui Faria.
The Red Devils had hoped Giggs could be persuaded to stay on in a different role but the 42-year-old Welshman appears to have decided to move on, though the club has not confirmed the departure.
The club are expected to make an official statement in the coming days, but the decorated player has decided to move on after agreeing a settlement with the club.
Giggs joined the United academy on his 14th birthday, turning professional aged 17 in November 1990 and made a record 963 appearances for the club.
He won a record 13 league titles, two European Cups, four FA Cups and four League Cups in a silverware-laden career at Old Trafford.
