Finland 4-1 Republic of Ireland

Republic of Ireland Women's hopes of European Championship qualification were all but ended as they succumbed to a 4-1 away defeat to Finland.

The hosts took the lead through midfielder Emmi Alanen on 32 minutes before Jenny Danielsson doubled their lead just before the break.

Finland made it 3-0 in the 70th minute with Natalia Kuikka scoring before the visitors pulled one back through substitute Stephanie Roche.

However, a late Linda Sallstrom goal capped off a convincing win for the Finns.

The result leaves the Republic in third position in Group 2, six points behind Finland in second and 12 behind leaders Spain.

Ireland are now reliant on Finland losing twice to Portugal, who have only beaten bottom side Montenegro so far, and winning both their games to earn the required runner-up spot.
