Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane believes Jose Mourinho is a “good fit” for Manchester United, but is not endeared to the Portuguese man on a personal level.
The former Chelsea boss was officially confirmed as Louis van Gaal’s replacement just days after the Dutchman led United to FA Cup glory last weekend.
Mourinho has signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford with an option to stay until at least 2020, though there have been reservations in some quarters over the volatile impact Mourinho could have given the rifts he encountered at Real Madrid and the dismal end to his time in charge of Chelsea.
"He’s not my kind of cuppa tea...I find him really irritating"
Bobby Charlton publicly aired his reservations when Mourinho was linked as a potential successor to Alex Ferguson and Keane has admitted that while he has an excellent track record, he has not been impressed by his personal dealings with the 53-year-old.
“He was always going to be a good option when United didn’t qualify for the Champions League,” Keane told ITV Sport.
“Fantastic CV and seems like a good fit. Maybe not for me.
"He’s not my kind of cup of tea. I find him really irritating when I’ve coached against him, but that’s just a personal thing."
Keane is currently with the Ireland camp as they prepare for their final international friendly against Belarus in Cork on Tuesday night (KO 7.45pm) with manager Martin O'Neill set to name his 23-man squad for the European Championships after the game at Turners Cross.
