Rory McIlroy hopes his winning touch will rub off on the Northern Ireland football team as they prepare for the Euro 2016 finals this summer.

McIlroy rushed straight from his Irish Open victory at the K Club on Sunday to the south Dublin training camp of Michael O'Neill's men.

Northern Ireland said on their official Twitter account: "Fantastic to have Irish Open Champion @McIlroyRory visit and to wish the players good luck ahead of @UEFAEURO".

McIlroy finished strongly at the K Club to win by three shots and claim his first tournament win in six months.

The Holywood man has targeted a summer of success for himself after producing a stunning finish to win the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open for the first time at The K Club.

"I really feel like my game is in good enough shape to kick on from here and to challenge in the three final Majors, and obviously everything else we have to play for this year, Olympics, Ryder Cup, Race to Dubai, FedEx Cup," he said after reigning in Kildare.

The North Ireland were handed a daunting draw in Group C back in December alongside two of the Republication Ireland's qualification opponents, Poland and Germany, as well as Ukraine.

It's their first major tournament appearance since the 1986 World Cup.
