Limerick FC 2-0 Galway United
Limerick FC are through to the EA Sports Cup semi-finals following a comfortable two-goal win over Galway United at the Markets Field on Tuesday night.
Centre half Paudie O’Connor opened the scoring in the first half and captain Shane Duggan doubled their advantage after the break.
Martin Russell’s side haven’t won this competition since 2002 and now they are one step closer to getting their hands on the silverware again.
Limerick were in control for most of this tie and good value for their win.
Teenager O’Connor got their first just before the half-hour when he hammered home a shot when a Shane Treacy free-kick fell kindly for him from close range.
And they secured their spot in the last four after 51 minutes when Duggan accepted a Sean Russell pass and finished neatly past Kevin Horgan.
Premier League Galway United came close on a number of occasions, but in the end it was the First Division leaders who progressed.
