Eamon Dunphy believes that Tottenham Hotspur will push Leicester City every step of the way on the way of the Premier League title and predicts more twists to come.
The Foxes moved eight points clear of Spurs at the weekend thanks to an impressive 4-0 victory over Swansea.
With talismanic striker Jamie Vardy suspended, many expected Leicester to slip up, but they responded in emphatic fashion to cement their title credentials.
Tottenham can close that gap back to five points with a victory over West Brom at White Hart Lane tonight and the London side appear to have the slightly easier run-in.
Next up for Leicester it’s Manchester United at Old Trafford, followed by Everton and then a final-day date with Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Spurs travel to Chelsea next before a home game with Southampton and an away encounter with relegation threatened Newcastle to round things out.
Dunphy believes that Leicester may yet slip up and that their next game with Manchester United will be a big test of their title credentials.
“If Spurs win tonight, it’s five points,” he told 2FM's Game On. “If Leicester lose at Old Trafford then the gap could be down to two points this time next week.
“I really don’t think it’s over. Swansea didn’t try, they’ve gone to the beach but I think Old Trafford will be a big test for Leicester without Jamie Vardy.
“I hope they win it, I think it’s a fantastic story and these guys are heroes, they’re brilliant with what they’ve done. I just don’t think they’re over the line yet.
“If they lose one match the gap is two points. Spurs are powerful, they were awesome at Stoke last week.”
Even if Leicester do manage to see off the challenge of Spurs, Dunphy believes that the London club will be a force to be reckoned with for some time yet.
“This is Leicester’s only chance. Spurs will have a chance again, Mauricio Pochettino is a good coach and he’s done a good job there. They’ll have other days.”
