Ciaran Kilduff will be out for “several months” with a fractured vertebrae, his club Dundalk have confirmed.

The striker suffered the injury during Monday’s EA Sports Cup loss to St Patrick’s Athletic.

Speaking to dundalkfc.com, manager Stephen Kenny expressed his disappointment at the injury.

“It is a big disappointment for us to lose Ciaran,” he said.

“It’s a very unusual injury. [Pat's goalkeeper] Brendan Clarke went through the back of him and that’s left him with broken vertebrae in his back.

“The scan has presented a complex injury. He has to wear a back brace for the next six weeks and he is facing several months out.”

“It is one of those unfortunate injuries and we will do everything we can to help him in his recovery"

Kenny added that the club will do everything to help the 27-year-old in his recovery.

“He started eight out of the ten games that we have played this season and he has been very good.

“He always puts in a shift. He’s a very honest player. He has a few things to work on, like we all do, but he has been a terrific addition.

“It is one of those unfortunate injuries and we will do everything we can to help him in his recovery.”

Dundalk play Shamrock Rovers on Friday at 7.45pm in Tallaght in the Premier Division.
