Cork welcome Finn Harps to Turner's Cross
Cork welcome Finn Harps to Turner's Cross

Cork City v Finn Harps. 7.45pm

With three draws from their last three games, Cork City will be desperate to get over the line against Finn Harps and close the gap on league leaders Dundalk.

The champions already hold a seven point lead over the Rebels and manager John Caulfield is eager to get back to winning ways.

"We need to get a win," he said. "We have drawn three games, which were all games that were winnable; we have created chances in some of those but have not taken them.

"I believe there is massive potential in this team and tremendous ability, but we have hit a bit of a blip where we have struggled to score goals. Thankfully, against Galway we score two and could probably have scored more and it was no harm to beat Waterford on Monday.

"It is a huge game, we are at home and we need to start putting a few wins together. I felt the team were a little down and, as the manager, it is your job to get the confidence back."

On the injury front, Caulfield has doubts over the availability of Michael McSweeney, Mark O’Sullivan and John Dunleavy, who are all carrying knocks, while John Kavanagh also remains sidelined.

Harps will go into the game with some confidence though having beaten Bray Wanderers at Finn Park last Friday.

However, in 17 previous trips to Turner's Cross to face Cork City, the Donegal side have only won once – that coming twenty years ago

“It doesn't get much more difficult than away to Cork for a whole pile of reasons”, said Harps boss Ollie Horgan as he prepared for his side’s second away game in five days.

“The distance might be a long one, but that is the least of the worries ahead of the game.

“They have an excellent panel of hugely talented players, they are technically and physically very strong and have a great mixture of experience and youth.  It could be a long hour and half for us,” he warned.

Barry Molloy, Josh Mailey, Keith Cowan, Tommy McMonagle, Adam Hanlon and Michael Rafter are all confirmed absentees for the trip while Dave Scully are Kevin McHugh are doubts.

Derry City v Bohemians, 7.45pm

Derry sit second on the table, two points behind Dundalk and on ahead of St Pat's. They were held to a 1-1 draw away to Longford last time out but previous to that were impressive in a 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers.

On the injury front, Harry Monaghan, Aaron Barry and Dean Jarvis are rated as doubtful.

Bohemians manager Keith Long is demanding a reaction from his players after they suffered a 4-0 defeat to fierce rivals Shamrock Rovers last time out.

The Gypsies were well beaten by Rovers Long has told them to "go out and restore some pride" at the Brandywell.

"It's been a bad week. We were obviously particularly disappointed with the result against Rovers. We know that the result and scoreline weren't acceptable," he said.

"Everyone is hurting, but we cannot feel sorry for ourselves. We've got to pick ourselves up, go to Derry and put in a fighting performance and show some character."

"It's going to be a very difficult game for us. Derry are in really good form, have some really good players and have made The Brandywell a fortress again."

Once again, Bohs' options have been disrupted by both illness and injury. Ismahil Akinade and Jason Caffrey are both ruled out with hamstring injuries.

Jake Kelly is out due to a flu-like bug while Ayman Ben Mohamed and captain Derek Pender, both now suffering with the bug, are also regarded as doubtful for the trip.

Shamrock Rovers v Dundalk, 7.45pm (live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player)

Looking at the league table, Shamrock Rovers currently sit in fourth place, fourth behind tonight's opponents but Dundalk have played a game more.

This is the first meeting between the sides in 2016, with the Hoops looking to build on last weekend's 4-0 victory over Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

Looking ahead to the game, boss Pat Fenlon said: "[Dundalk] are a very good side. Back -to-back league champions takes some doing, we have to be the same as we were last Friday against Bohs.

"Dundalk are the benchmark for everyone in the league. They’re a very good side and hopefully we pick up the three points.”

The home side will be without defender David O’Connor, but Fenlon hopes to see him return within ten days. Luke Byrne and Stephen McPhail return to the squad after spells out.

Speaking to dundalkfc.com, goalkeeper Gary Rogers said: “The games against Shamrock Rovers are the kind of games that you want to be playing in and we know we are more than capable of going there and getting a win.

"Hopefully we can go there and get the three points and a performance to go with it.”

Brothers Ciaran and Michael O'Connor, and Shane Grimes are injured, while Patrick McEleney and Paddy Barrett are doubts.

Ciaran Kilduff has a broken vertebrae and will be out for a few months

Wexford Youths v Galway United, 8pm

Wexford haven't had the best of weeks, losing heavily to St Patricks' Athletic last Friday and being knocked out of the EA Sports Cup by Limerick on Tuesday.

Manager Shane Keegan said: "The Pat's game was probably our first poor performance of the season so it's really important that bounce straight back.

"I think the character in that dressing room is really good and I'll be challenging them to give me a big response.

"It'll be a really tough game as Galway are flying but a win against a side as good as them would make a real statement and potentially put us right back on track."

Danny Furlong is suspended, while Aidan Keenan, Peter Higgins, Lee Grace and Shane Dunne are injured.

Galway travel to the South East on the back of a 2-2 draw with Cork City last Friday - a match where they gave a two-goal advantage. Manager Tommy Dunne is expecting a tough assignment at Ferrycarrig Park.

With Wexford Youths being at home, they'll be looking for an improvement and bounce in results," he said.

"They played what is on paper a Premier Division team in Limerick. It was always going to be a tough ask, no matter what side they played.

"From our point of view going to Wexford, we've done it before, we know it's going to be a tough game. Dundalk and Derry City both went and got difficult games. It's not going to be any different for us.

"We're going to Wexford and we're thinking we can get a result there, we know they will feel the same. I'd imagine Shane Keegan is happy with the competitiveness of his team, Pats aside, they've been there or thereabouts in games."

Jesse Devers (groin), Armin Aganovic (knee) and Kevin Devaney (leg infection) are all ruled out.
