Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Judge has left hospital following the double leg-break which has ruled him out of the European Championships.

The 27-year-old only made his debut in last month’s friendly international victory over Switzerland, but his season was cut short following a horrific injury suffered during Brentford's Championship win over Ipswich at the weekend.

Judge received eight minutes of treatment before being taken from the field on a motorised stretcher just two minutes into the game.

The Dubliner posted his thanks for the widespread support he has received since the setback and revealed that he has left hospital in London to continue his rehabilitation.

“Off home today thank u to everyone at Cromwell hospital for their help very much appreciated,” he wrote.

The injury occurred when Ipswich’s Luke Hyam clattered into Judge, leaving him writhing in agony on the turf. His leg was in a brace when he eventually left the field.

Judge made 38 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring 14 goals.
