Tom Mohan will succeed Paul Doolin as the Republic of Ireland Under-19 manager.
Mohan, a former Derry City, Finn Harps and Longford Town player has also acted as the FAI’s development officer for Cavan, currently manages the Republic of Ireland Under-17 side.
Doolin’s six-year tenure included a superb showing at the 2011 European Championships, where he guided his charges all the way to the semi-finals.
FAI High performance director Ruud Dokter welcomed Mohan's appointment, saying: "I am very happy with the appointment. Tom has proven to be the preferred candidate for the role. He has been with the under-17s for nine years and has become an expert in underage international football.”
A delighted Mohan said: "It is a great honour to manage your country at any level, but this is a step up for me to the under-19s and it is a challenge that I am looking forward to.
"I hope my experience with the under-17s - firstly assisting Sean McCaffrey and then John Morling - before becoming manager will stand to me, as I know how much of a challenge this position will be with the competition around Europe improving year on year.”
Mohan will start his new role in May on a full-time basis.
