Derry City 2-1 Galway United

Striker Nathan Boyle netted a last gasp winner for Derry City to see off a battling Galway United side.

Boyle cancelled out Kevin Devaney's first half goal, before netting the winner on 92 minutes to spark wild celebrations at the Brandywell.

It was a case of 'if it's not broke done fix it' as far as Kenny Shiels was concerned as he named the same team for the third game in a row.

As for the visitors they made one change to their side which secured a 1-1 draw at Sligo Rovers on Monday, with former Derry striker Enda Curran replacing Ruairi Keating in the starting line-up.

The lively Gary Shananan, went close on 19 minutes but his stinging effort from 20 yards was straight at Gerard Doherty.

Galway took the lead on 24 minutes after Shanahan's right wing cross from the bye-line found an unmarked Kevin Devaney and he gleefully made no mistake from close range.

Moments later Curran was unlucky not to add a second in super fashion but his attempted chip from 30 yards, which had Doherty scrambling, landed on top of the net.

Derry went close to levelling things on 37 minutes but Gareth McGlynn's 25 yard free-kick was parried over the bar by Conor Winn.

Winn was a lucky man on 37 minutes when Barry McNamee's close range strike on the stretch seemed to just hit the keeper.

Early in the second half an in-swinging McNamee corner from the right found Ryan McBride, but the defender's header from 10 yards was well off target.

Doherty had to make a smart save on 62 minutes when he kept out Shanahan's drive and Niclas Vemmelund did equally as well to flick the loose ball away from the in-coming Curran.

Derry, who started to get the upper hand in the game, deservedly drew level on 75 minutes when Nathan Boyle's low drive from just the right hand side of the box flew into the bottom left hand corner.

In the closing stages Winn produced a stunning save to when at full stretch he did well to turn Josh Daniels' well hit effort over the bar.

In stoppage time Rory Patterson's long ball over the top released Boyle and after controlling the ball his low drive hit the inside of the post before nestling in the net.
