Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill has been offered a new £2million, four-year contract as a reward for guiding his side to this summer’s European Championships.
The Belfast Telegraph are reporting that the former Shamrock Rovers manager will earn £500,000 per year in his new contract that will run until the Euro 2020 tournament.
O’Neill guided the North to the France tournament, starting the campaign as fifth seeds in their group, qualifying automatically after topping Group F ahead of Romania, Hungary and Finland.
The 31-times capped international will become the highest paid manager of Northern Ireland and the association have safeguarded their investment by adding a compensation clause should O’Neill attract the interest of any club side.
The IFA will receive a figure which amounts to £750,000 should O’Neill find alternative employment during the course of his contract.
Northern Ireland have been drawn in a very tough group at this year’s Euro 2016 tournament as O’Neill’s side face world champions Germany, Poland and Ukraine in their bid to reach the knock-out phase.
