Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is a free agent after formally rescinding his contract with Inter Milan.
The 34-year-old Serbian left Old Trafford to join the Nerazzurri in July 2014 and made 28 competitive appearances for the San Siro side, scoring one goal.
Hernia and back injuries meant the centre-back failed to feature for Inter this season and he is now on the lookout for a new club.
Vidic told inter.it: "Thanks to all the Nerazzurro family and to the Inter fans. I wish the club all the best for the future. Forza Inter!"
The one-time Red Star Belgrade defender won the Champions League and five Premier League titles with United.
Norwich's busy transfer window continues after they made Wolfsburg defender Timm Klose their fourth January signing.
The Switzerland centre-back has agreed a three-and-half-year deal, subject to governing body approval, for an undisclosed fee.
Matt Jarvis, Ivo Pinto and Ben Godfrey have already moved to Carrow Road this month as manager Alex Neil continues to bolster his squad.
"Norwich City are delighted to make their fourth signing of the January transfer window, completing a deal for Switzerland international defender Timm Klose from VfL Wolfsburg subject to governing body approval," said a Canaries statement.
Neil, who is also on the verge of adding a fifth new arrival, Everton forward Steven Naismith, is pleased to have added more cover at the back.
"Timm has got plenty of experience having played in the Bundesliga, in the Champions League and for his country, which will be an asset to us," he told canaries.co.uk.
"As a player, he's got good technical ability and he's solid in the air. He can also play at either right centre-back or left centre-back.
"We're delighted to have completed this deal and to have added Timm to our squad."

The 28-year-old Morocco international will join Quique Sanchez Flores' squad after Monday's Barclays Premier League fixture at Swansea.
"He has the qualities of the players we like," Sanchez Flores said of the player earlier this week.
"He can play at number 10; he holds the ball, he can turn quickly with the strength of a striker and escape the defensive line.
"He can also play as a winger because he has that pace and velocity - the power that adds to the options of a team."
