Harry Arter backs Bournemouth to stick with attacking philosophy

Republic of Ireland midfielder Harry Arter has insisted Bournemouth will not change their mindset in upcoming games against fellow relegation strugglers Norwich City and Sunderland despite Tuesday's home defeat by West Ham United.

The 3-1 loss left the south coast club in 16th place, only three points above the relegation zone, and facing a fight to retain their top-flight status after promotion to join the elite for the first time.

"Honestly the result won't affect our preparations," Arter told the club's website. "It sounds like I'm just saying that as it's an easy thing to say but it won't.

"If we'd have won it would have made no difference."

Arter, who made his senior international debut in the 0-0 draw with England at the Aviva Stadium last June, put the Cherries ahead, but they folded under the weight of a powerful visiting performance.

It was Arter's first Premier League goal, but he said it was little consolation after his side coughed up a valuable three points.

"I’m not thinking about the fact I scored my first Premier League goal," the midfielder said.

"I do need to add more goals to my game especially in that position. But I’m focusing on the performance personally and as a team, we were nowhere near good enough.

"We were in control in the first half even though we weren’t playing as well as we could and the second half was really poor, they deserved the three points.

Eddie Howe's men host 15th-placed Norwich on Saturday, followed by a trip to second-from-bottom side Sunderland on 23 January, with Arter eyeing a swift reaction.

"In the last seven or eight games even if we haven’t been getting a result we’ve played well and been positive.

"It's a new game and a new slate to improve from when we played Norwich last time. We need to put in a much better performance than [against West Ham]."
