Shamrock Rovers have confirmed the signings of Dean Clarke and Gary Shaw for the 2016 season, while Trevor Clarke has been awarded a first team contract.

The pair will provide competition for Danny North and Mikey Drennan for a place in the Rovers attack.

Clarke is a 22-year-old striker who signs from Limerick FC, while 23-year-old Shaw signs from Longford Town.

Manager Pat Fenlon expressed his delight at the capture of the signatures of both young players.

Of Shaw, Fenlon said: “I am delighted to have Gary at the club, he is a player we looked at earlier in the season so to get him now is very satisfying.

“He is the profile of player we need to add to the squad, he has a great desire to achieve in football, is hungry for success and gives us more options up front.”

While Fenlon is also delighted to have fought off interest from other clubs for Clarke, saying: “He can play on both sides of the pitch and up top. He also has a real hunger for the game and is keen to progress his career at Shamrock Rovers. Other clubs were interested in Dean, we are delighted to have him with us at Rovers in 2016.”

Meanwhile, after a great season with the Under 19s, Clarke has been awarded a first team contract, while Craig Hyland, David O’Connor, Luke Byrne, Gavin Brennan have re-signed and Rob Cornwall and Sean Heaney return from loan spells.
