Real Sociedad have sacked coach David Moyes after Friday's 2-0 defeat at promoted Las Palmas left the Basque club hovering just above the La Liga relegation places.
San Sebastian-based Sociedad lie 16th in the table on nine points having won only two of their 11 games this term and are in similarly dire straits to when Scot Moyes took over almost exactly a year ago.
A statement from the Basque outfit read: "Real Sociedad has decided to rescind the contract of the coach of the first team David Moyes." His assistant Billy McKinlay has also parted company with the club.
Moyes took over last November he looked to rebuild his reputation after a harrowing stint in the hot seat at Manchester United.
The former Preston boss spent 11 successful years at Everton before being chosen as the man to replace the towering figure of Alex Ferguson, but he endured a nightmare spell at Old Trafford, getting the chop after just 10 months.
His decision to head for Spain raised eyebrows with Moyes himself admitting it was gamble to take the reins at Sociedad, but stressed that he was keen to broaden his horizons and work in a foreign country.
In the statement, Real Sociedad added: "The club wishes to thank David Moyes as well as Billy McKinlay for the contribution, professionalism and dedication that they have shown during the time in charge of the first team.
"We wish them the best of luck in their professional and personal futures."
