Derry City 2-3 Bohemians

Bohemians kept their European hopes alive after securing an impressive 3-2 away win against Derry City in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Ismahil Akinade netted twice before Ciaran O’Connor and Barry McNamee levelled for Derry just before the half-hour mark.

However, Jake Kelly scored what turned out to be the winner on 36 minutes.

The visitors took the lead after just a minute when Akinade broke the offside trap before he slide the ball past advancing Derry goalkeeper Gerard Doherty.

It took City 62 seconds to level things as Ciaran O’Connor headed home his first goal at the Brandywell after Mark Timlin’s left-wing centre picked him out at the back post.

Akinade grabbed his second on 24 minutes and he glanced home Jake Kelly’s inswinging corner from the right.

Six minutes later Derry levelled again, this time neat play and a pass by Mark Quigley released Barry McNamee and he netted his fifth goal of the season.

Bohs lead for a third time on 36 minutes after Kelly hammered home from the left-hand side of the City penalty box.

Akinade should have completed his hat-trick and netted Bohs’ fourth goal just before the break, but Doherty did well to deny the striker and Aaron Barry blocked Keith Buckley’s close-range follow-up strike.

City were inches away from equalising for a third time on 47 minutes but Quigley’s close-range header from Timlin’s corner sailed just past Delany’s right-hand post.

Delany had to make a wonder save on 76 minutes when he got down low to keep out Stephen Dooley’s well hit 20 yard drive.
