Sligo Rovers 0-2 Bohemians

Bohemians remain in with small shout of catching St Patrick's Athletic for the final Europa League spot after they beat Sligo Rovers 2-0 at the Showgrounds.

The win sees the Gypsies move to within five points of the Saints with one game extra played and two remaining.

Ismahil Akinade headed Keith Long's charges into the lead with six minutes of the opening half remaining. Dylan Hayes was unable to guide Eoin Wearen's cross from the right towards goal but instead the ball hung in the air for Akinade to powerfully head beyond Richard Brush.

This was the sixth consecutive game that Sligo have conceded first and Bohs compounded the Showgrounds' misery six minutes later as the Gypsies doubled their lead.

The away side profited from more lackadaisical Rovers defending as the unmarked Anto Murphy nodded past Brush from a Jake Kelly corner.

The Bit O'Red enjoyed ample possession in dangerous areas but were unable to capitalise at any stage against a stout Dalymount rearguard.

Morten Nielsen produced a strong save from Dean Delany on seven minutes as Rovers started with promise. Nielsen was first to Jennison-Myrie Williams's resulting corner but he failed to guide his header towards the target.

Rovers restricted the Bohs attack for the majority of the first period but continued to fail to make chances count, Sander Puri shooting straight at Dean Delany just past the half hour.

Two down at the break, it was more of the same from Rovers as a defensively solid Bohs side dealt with anything an indecisive Sligo attack could throw at them.

The away team created just two chances in the second half. The first of these was a sly free kick from Kelly from the edge of the area on 52 which almost caught Brush out - the Birmingham native grabbing the ball at the second attempt.

Micky Adams introduced Raffaele Cretaro and Keith Ward in an effort to claw their way back into the game. The latter saw his dangerous, bending free-kick from 20 yards narrowly avoid Delany's crossbar on the hour.

A mix up between Sligo defenders Regan Donelon and Alan Keane allowed a cross from Bohs sub Paddy Kavanagh squeeze its way through to Akinade. But Brush managed to find his position in time to beat the ball away.

The result means Bohemians' slim dreams of playing European football in 2016 stay alive. While Sligo continue to sweat just above the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division play-off/relegation spot having suffered their 15th defeat of the season.
