Danny Ings has played in derbies before – but he knows he’s in for a whole new level of intensity this weekend.

Ings’ Liverpool take on Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Having been on a Burnely team that beat Blackburn in a big local clash before he has some idea of what to expect.

But the Reds’ 23-year-old summer signing acknowledges that the Merseyside clash will be something completely different.

"I have played in derby games before but I don't think anything as special as this one," he said.

"Burnley-Blackburn was quite fierce. Going to Ewood Park was extremely tough but we got the win there after, I think, 35 years so that was a special moment for Burnley at the time.

"It gives me fire in my belly when you have fans screaming at you and not in a nice way."

Since arriving from Turf Moor Ings has been one of the few bright spots of a stuttering season for Liverpool.

He scored in back-to-back games late last month with his maiden goal for the Anfield club just three minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute against Norwich and he then followed that up with one against Carlisle.

But it is not just his goal-scoring which has already endeared him to fans - his all-action, no-nonsense approach to every minute he plays makes him a supporters' favourie.

That has been in contrast to the general performance of the team and Thursday's disappointing 1-1 Europa League draw with.

Ings is likely to get the chance to again team up with Daniel Sturridge, rested in midweek, at Goodison if Christian Benteke is not fit enough to return after a hamstring injury.

The pair combined well on their first start together in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa last weekend.

Ings earned an England call-up on the back of his recent good form for Liverpool and he will be part of manager Roy Hodgson’s squad for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania later this month.
