Deportivo La Coruna moved up to sixth in La Liga after beating Espanyol 3-0 at Riazor.

An early own goal by Alvaro Gonzalez put the hosts on their way and then Lucas Perez scored either side of half-time to wrap up a second straight win for Victor Sanchez del Amo's side.

Things went from bad to worse for Espanyol late in the game as Pape Diop was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Real Betis produced a second-half turnaround to win 2-1 at Sporting Gijon and pick up their first away victory of the season.

Carlos Castro put the hosts ahead in the 16th minute but Joaquin headed Betis level two minutes after the break and then Ruben Castro completed the turnaround with an impressive strike from outside the area.

Getafe secured a 3-0 home victory over Levante to leave the visitors languishing in La Liga's bottom three.
Two goals from the impressive Alvaro Vazquez and a third from Emiliano Buendia, all in the game's final 10 minutes, secured victory when a goalless draw had looked likely.

However, there was no breaking the deadlock in the Basque derby as David Moyes' Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao played out a 0-0 draw.

There were mixed emotions for Barcelona on Saturday as Lionel Messi suffered a bad knee injury.

Luis Suarez bagged a brace as Barca overcame Las Palmas 2-1 but Messi's third-minute injury - torn ligaments in the knee - will keep him out for seven weeks and overshadowed the victory.

Suarez headed Barcelona ahead midway through the opening half and slotted home a second on 54 minutes. Neymar missed a penalty 12 minutes later and Jonathan Viera's 88th-minute strike made things interesting, but the hosts held on.

Real Madrid couldn't find a way past Malaga in a 0-0 draw at the Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo had an early goal disallowed for offside and Marcos Angeleri's brilliant clearance off the line frustrated the Portuguese after the break.

Real missed several chances, with Ronaldo heading just over the bar in the dying moments.

Leo Baptistao sent Villareal top with the only goal of the game against Atletico Madrid

Baptistao finished well in the 14th minute after a through ball from Roberto Soldado.

Sevilla earned their first win of the season against Rayo Vallecano, 3-2 thriller.

Kevin Gameiro and Steven N'Zonzi put the Europa League holders 2-0 up at half-time before Bebe and Javi Guerra hit back for Rayo Vallecano.

Yevhen Konoplyanka proved the hero though as he netted the winner in the 86th minute..

Celta Vigo drew 1-1 with Eibar. Borja Baston put hosts Eibar ahead in the third minute, but former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas snatched a point in the 76th minute.
