Derry City 1-0 Shamrock Rovers
Derry City secured a tremendous battling 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers to ease some of their relegation fears.
Dean Jarvis' first goal of the season on 74 minutes was enough for Paul Hegarty to get off to a winning start as caretaker boss.
Derry started on the front foot and had the first effort on target on two minutes, but Barry Murphy did well to keep out Ciaran O'Connor's strike.
Gerard Doherty had to come to City’s rescue on six minutes after Michael Drennan's super pass in behind Ben McLaughlin released Brandon Miele, but the striker saw his shot turned over the bar by the out-rushing Derry keeper.
Just before the break Dooley did well to set-up O'Connor, but the striker’s 20 yard shot was gathered by a diving Murphy.
A super through ball released Damien Duff on 66 minutes, but the ex-Republic of Ireland international saw his side footed effort superbly saved by Doherty.
Jarvis' close range header gave Murphy no chance after Mark Timlin’s in-swinging corner from the right caused problems, handing Derry the three points.
