Jack Grealish has yet to come to a decision about whether to declare for England or Ireland, according to the player’s father.

Reports emerged yesterday that the Aston Villa midfielder was set to declare for England ahead of next month’s qualifiers but they were refuted by Kevin Grealish who said that there was “nothing in that report whatsoever”.

“No decision has been made by Jack yet,” said Grealish Senior. “He hasn’t even played much football this season because of injuries.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood opted to stay out of the debate yesterday when asked about the player’s choice of country.

"I've spoken to Roy Hodgson, Martin O'Neill, Jack Grealish and his father. I have said it is not my decision to make, it is up to those three parties to fight it out, leave me out of it," Sherwood said.

"He hasn't told me. I can't tell him. In his heart of hearts he has to decide whether he is English or Irish. He has to decide.

"I had a similar situation with Nabil Bentaleb, he could play for France or Algeria. He said, 'My blood feels Algerian'. Maybe Jack will feel the same."
