Billy Dennehy insisted there was “never any issue” between him and Cork City after his side’s resounding 4-0 FAI Cup victory over holders St Patrick’s Athletic.
Cork manager John Caulfield had revealed the winger was "free to explore other opportunities" after Dennehy and team-mate Mark O’Sullivan had to be separated during the Europa League qualifier against KR Reykjavik last month.
Dennehy hadn’t played for the club since that game and started on the bench against Pat’s.
However, he played down the dispute and heaped praise on his team-mates after an impressive victory over the Saints.
“Everyone did unbelievable tonight,” said Dennehy. “There was never any issue (between me and the club). I’m just delighted to be back on the pitch and to cap it off with a goal. I’m really looking forward now to the run-in to the end of the season.”
After back-to-back league defeats to Shamrock Rovers and Limerick, morale was low in the Cork camp, but Dennehy praised his side’s reaction.
“The last two defeats were tough for everyone but these things happen in football, you can’t really dwell on them for too long.
“We knew it would be a very hard game, Pat’s are a very good team and have some very good players. To win it the way we did was a good performance from all the lads.
“The squad knows we’re better than we’ve showed the couple of results. They’re always hard games coming up against any of the big sides, we definitely deserved the win.”
The draw for the FAI Cup quarter-finals will take place live on-air on Sunday Sport
on RTÉ Radio 1 at 14:30 tomorrow. Darren Frehill will be joined by Noel King and Fran Gavin to conduct the last-eight draw.
