Cork City have signed Stephen Folan following the defender's departure from Sligo Rovers on Tuesday.
Folan joined midfielder Eoin Wearen in leaving the Bit O'Red by mutual consent.
Centre-back Folan also previously played for Limerick and Newcastle United.
Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, the 23-year-old said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. Once I got the phone call, this is where I knew I wanted to be. The club is challenging for honours again this season, and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”
“I’ve been on the losing side against Cork City a number of times; they’re a big team but they can play football as well. There are a lot of experienced players at the club and I can’t wait to get started.
"I want to work hard every day and see where that takes me. We still have to play Dundalk twice, so it is still all to play for and I think if any team is going to give Dundalk a run for their money, it is going to be us.”
Wearen, meanwhile, has returned to former club Bohemians.
The former West Ham youth originally signed for Bohs in May of last year. He made 15 league appearances for the club last season, scoring three times.
Wearen (22) said: “I can’t wait to get started and push for Europe with this great club. It is a special club to play for and I feel privileged to have another opportunity to play here.
"I feel like I am coming back home and look forward to playing in front of our great fans once again.”
