Louis van Gaal hailed Bastian Schweinsteiger as "the ultimate professional" after landing the German World Cup winner on a productive day of transfer dealings for his United States-bound Manchester United squad.

Schweinsteiger and fellow new boy Morgan Schneiderlin, who completed his move from Southampton, are expected to head straight to the States for United's pre-season tour, which kicks off in Seattle on 17 July.

Schweinsteiger has signed a three-year deal which enables him to renew his relationship with Van Gaal, under whom he worked for two years of a glittering Bayern Munich career which yielded eight Bundesliga titles.

Van Gaal said: "Bastian is the ultimate professional and there is no doubting his talent and his ability to control games. He brings a wealth of experience and is an excellent addition to our squad."

Schweinsteiger added: "I feel ready for this new and exciting challenge in what I regard as the most competitive league in the world and I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal again."

The German and Schneiderlin, who has signed a four-year contract with the option of a further year, have followed Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian into Old Trafford this summer in what is proving a significant statement of intent from United.

And David De Gea is set to remain a United player for the time being at least after the goalkeeper was included in the squad for the flight to the US.

De Gea's future has long been in doubt as he has been openly courted by Real Madrid, who sold long-serving Iker Casillas to Porto this week, but with no firm offer coming from the Spanish giants United insist it remains business as usual.

One player sure to exit Old Trafford is striker Robin van Persie, who is set to be officially unveiled as a Fenerbahce player at a ceremony in Istanbul later today.

The Turkish club tweeted photographs of the Dutchman wrapped in a club scarf upon his arrival in the capital on Sunday, although the move is yet to be confirmed at either end.

But Fenerbahce are clearly confident they have got their man after tweeting: "Our club's new signing Robin van Persie's signing ceremony July 14 2014 on Tuesday."
