St Patrick's Athletic midfielder Chris Forrester has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland player of the month for June.

Forrester bagged four goals in four games during June and it is the third time the 22-year-old midfielder has won the monthly award.

"I'm thrilled to get the award, it has been a good month for me," said Forrester.

"At the start of the season I set myself some targets and being more consistent was one of them.

"I've been doing a lot of work off the field too and I'm trying to keep improving my game all the time."

Liam Buckley's side sit fourth in the table with the 2013 Premier Division champions 16 points off leaders Dundalk, and Forrester admits it has been a testing season for the Saints so far.

"As a team we are not where we want to be in the league and getting knocked out of Europe was a disappointment too," explained Forrester.

"But we're not going to give up on the league though. We know it's going to be tough to catch Dundalk but we will fight until the end.

"We're still in the FAI Cup too so we would like to do well in that and try to win it again."
