Former Drogheda and Athlone Town boss Mick Cooke is the new manager of beleaguered Bray Wanderers.

Cooke will take immediate control of the Bray squad, and has been appointed on a deal until the end of the 2016 season. He will be announcing his staff shortly

On Monday, Bray Chairman Denis O'Connor said acquiring a “strong” manager would solve the problems that have dogged the club over the last four months.

Cooke’s appointment follows confirmation of the departure of Trevor Croly this week. Croly left after overseeing three wins in seven games and bringing the club within touching distance of the top half of the table.

Bray won their most recent fixture despite the lack of a manager, beating Limerick 1-0. Speaking after that result, midfielder David Cassidy said that the squad had been left to their own devices and had lost faith in the club.

Mick Cooke's most recent managerial appointment was with Athlone Town; he stepped down from that position by mutual consent in April of last year.
