Cork City have completed the signing of Steven Beattie from SSE Airtricity League Premier Division rivals Sligo Rovers.
Beattie joined the Bit O’Red from Bohemians at the end of last season.
The 26-year-old told Cork’s official website: “I’m absolutely delighted to be signing for Cork City, it has been a long time coming.
I spoke to John [Caulfield, Cork manager] before the start of the season but fortunately John has shown patience and has given me another chance to join the biggest club in Ireland.
“If you ask any player in the League of Ireland, they will tell you they want to play for Cork City, so I am delighted to have the opportunity.”
Speaking of his latest acquisition, Caulfield said: “I’m thrilled to sign Steven. Obviously he was at Bohemians last year, and I tried to bring him in over the close season. He chose to follow Owen Heary to Sligo, but an opportunity arose in the last week and I am pleased he has signed.
“I think our crowd will love him; he’s an exciting player, he’s full of energy and pace, and he’s great at creating chances. He can play wide left, wide right or through the middle. I think we have found that we need to create more chances and I think he will help us to do that.
“He has caused us problems when he has played against us. He is a whole-hearted, exciting player and I think our supporters will appreciate that he will be a fantastic team player.”
