Sligo Rovers 1-1 Galway

Sligo Rovers and Galway United played out a 1-1 draw at the Showgrounds in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Former Rovers man Ryan Connolly struck in the tenth minute to hand United the lead but Rovers' top marksman Dinny Corcoran levelled the game seven minutes later.

Both sides were afforded decent opportunities to come away with the points but poor finishing from both teams meant the second Connacht derby of the season finished level.

Galway made the most of slack Sligo defending to take an early advantage. Gavin Peers' lapse in concentration led to a miss-placed pass into no man's land which was picked up by Jake Keegan who crossed for Connolly who in turn, neatly tapped the ball past Richard Brush.

The lead lasted just seven minutes as Danny Ledwith's cross from the left caused havoc in the United area.

Sander Puri saw his header pushed away by Conor Winn but Corcoran was on hand to squeeze the ball between the Galway goalkeeper and the near post for his seventh league goal of the season.

Brush had to be alert on the half hour as he blocked Curran's shot low down after Danny Ledwith clumsily conceded possession in midfield. Stephen Walsh cracked the post from close range from the resulting corner as Rovers' defensive problems persisted.

Keegan's spinning volley a minute from the break soared over Brush's crossbar. This was to be final act of the half as the teams went in at the break at one a piece.

David O'Leary scrambled Corcoran's header off the United goal line on 53 as the home side started the second half with more purpose.

Sligo's Eoin Wearen worried Winn on the hour mark with his twisting drive which whistled over Winn's crossbar during a competitive start to the second half.

Brush did well to rush out and claim the ball at the feet of United substitute Padraic Cunningham on 73 minutes.

Cunningham should have done better with his next chance on 79 when he latched on to the end of a cross from Connolly. The striker's tame effort was easily saved by a grateful Brush.

Gary Armstrong's superb touch from a searching long ball from fellow sub Keith Ward set up Corcoran five minutes from time, but the former Bohs man was unable to correctly weight his attempted lob as the ball landed on the roof of Winn's net.

Joseph Ndo's side were afforded one last chance in the second minute of added time, but Ward could only find the gloves of Winn who was comfortable with the Dubliner's placed effort.
