Republic of Ireland under-age international Jack Byrne has signed a new three-year deal with Manchester City.

Ninteen-year-old Byrne, from Dublin, has been with the City academy since 2011, and has been hailed as one of Ireland’s brightest prospects.

Byrne said that he was “delighted and proud” to sign the deal, which will keep him at the cub until 2018.

A former player with St Kevin’s in Dublin, Byrne trained with the Man City first team at the end of last season, and now looks set to try to take another step up at the club.

He has represented Ireland at under-17s and under-19s, and was called up to the under-21 squad aged just 18, playing in the UEFA U21 Championship qualifiers earlier this year.

He is part of the Elite Development Squad at City, along with fellow Dubliner, goalkeeper Ian Lawlor.
