Sligo insist 'agreement' reached with Heary

Sligo Rovers have insisted that they reached "an agreement" with Owen Heary's legal representative for the Dubliner's departure as manager earlier this week.

The club's latest statement  follows a bizarre set of events on Friday evening, when the club released a statement announcing Heary had "stepped down", only for Heary himself to directly contradict that while appearing as an analyst on Setanta Sports and insist he had been sacked.

Regardless of the circumstances, Heary certainly seems to have managed his last game for Rovers, who lost 1-0 to Bray tonight to prolong a miserable start to the season which has seen them record just two wins in 17 games.

A statement from Sligo Rovers to RTÉ Sport tonight said: "Sligo Rovers concluded an agreement with the legal representative of Mr Owen Heary earlier this week.

"Football is a results-driven business. The resources provided by the loyal supporters of Sligo Rovers were not reflected in the on-the-field performances and results this season.

"The club's league position and falling gate receipts made the incontrovertible case for change.

"Owen is a young manager and the club wishes him well in his career.

"Joseph Ndo and Gavin Dykes are currently taking charge of the team. The board of Sligo Rovers, in consultation with supporters, will review its managerial options in the coming weeks.

"The priorities now are to improve our league position and lift morale within the club and its support base."
