Longford Town edged through to the third round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup after beating Finn Harps 4-3 on penalties at Finn Park.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw last Friday night in Longford and again the sides could not be separated over 90 minutes in Ballybofey as the game went into extra time following a scoreless encounter.

The deadlock remained following the 30 minutes of extra time and the game was taken to a penalty shoot-out.

Both sides had missed one penalty apiece before Josh Mailey hit the post with Harps’ fifth, which allowed Martin Deady to stroke the ball home to give Longford the victory.
