The funeral of sports broadcaster Bill O'Herlihy has taken place at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Foxrock.
O’Herlihy passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, survived by his wife Hilary, daughters Jill and Sally, his brothers Jack, David and Peter and his five grandchildren.
President Michael D. Higgins, and friends and colleagues from the worlds of broadcasting and sport, were among the mourners at the service.
Former Justice Minister, Nora Owen, RTÉ Soccer analysts Eamon Dunphy, John Giles and Liam Brady, as well as RTÉ Head of Sport Ryle Nugent and rugby analysts Tom McGurk and Brent Pope were also among the congregation.
The main celebrant of the funeral Mass described the broadcaster as a “humble family man” who was “a great light” and “a source of joy”.
In his homily, Father Tom O'Keeffe also referred to Bill O'Herlihy's other “very dysfunctional family on TV, the three amigos” - two of whom, Dunphy and Giles, read prayers of the faithful during the Mass.
