Galway United 1-0 Bohemians (after extra-time)

Bohemians will be glad to see the back of Eamonn Deacy Park after suffering a second disappointing result at the venue in the space of just three days as Galway United inflicted a 1-0 extra-time defeat on the visitors in the quarter-finals of the EA Sports Cup.

Jason Molloy whipped in a cross from the left wing for Jake Keegan to head home in the third minute of extra-time.

Keegan’s jubilation at scoring was all the greater as the New York native had spurned a number of earlier opportunities to break the deadlock.

Keith Long’s decision to use all three of his substitutes in normal time backfired on the Bohs boss as Anto Murphy hobbled off and left his depleted side chasing an equaliser which was to prove beyond them.

The Tribesmen had accounted for the Gypsies in very different fashion on Friday night, prevailing 5-3 in a thrilling encounter in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Galway were joined in the last four by Cup holders Dundalk, who recorded a resounding 5-0 win over a hopelessly outclassed UCC side, while Cork City, St Patrick’s Athletic, Derry City and Shamrock Rovers contest the remaining quarter-finals in the competition on Tuesday night.
