Cork City have been dealt a defensive dilemma with the confirmation that club captain John Dunleavy suffered a meniscal knee injury and will be out for approximately four months.
Dunleavy suffered the injury in the early stages of last Friday’s game against Dundalk, and after seeing a specialist this week, it has been deemed necessary for him to undergo surgery in the coming days.
The injury means Dunleavy will miss a significant portion of Cork's league season and the Europa League qualifying matches in July.
Manager John Caulfield said: “It is obviously extremely disappointing for Johnny and for us to lose him for the next few months. He is in very good hands with the medical team at the club and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”
