Eamon Dunphy: Manchester United have a long way to go despite the win over Liverpool

Manchester United may now be favoured to claim a Champions League spot for next season following their win over Liverpool but Eamon Dunphy feels the Louis van Gaal project still leaves more questions than answers.

In assessing United's 2-1 win at Anfield on Sunday, Dunphy told RTÉ Sport that the victory was a "huge result" and that from the start "they dominated Liverpool."

However, he added that Van Gaal's side have to build on the wins over Tottenham and Liverpool, stating that "they still have to play Chelsea and Manchester City - we'll see over the stretch how they'll do."

Dunphy's lack of confidence was further emphasised when he questioned whether "rampaging (Marouane) Fellaini is going to strike terror into the hearts of the opposition?"

He continued: "Where was Juan Mata all season? (Mata's brace undid Liverpool on Sunday). Why isn't Wayne Rooney playing up front? Why did he (Van Gaal) pay £60m for Di Maria and leave him on the bench?

"There are still an awful lot of questions to be asked about Manchester United. They have along way to go yet."

As for Liverpool, Dunphy added: "They have sometimes found it difficult breaking down teams at Anfield, even ordinary teams. That was apparent yesterday.

"I think Raheem Sterling was played in the wrong position. He should have been more central."
