Germany coach Joachim Low has included Bastian Schweinsteiger and Holger Badstuber in the squad to face Georgia in the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia as well as the friendly against Australia.
The Germans travel to Tiblisi to take on the Georgians on Sunday week, the same day as fellow Group D hopefuls the Republic of Ireland play host to Poland at the Aviva Stadium.
Captain Schweinsteiger makes a return for the first time since the World Cup final.
Bastuber returns to the squad for the first time since October 2012 having convinced Low his injury agony since then is well and truly behind him.
Ilkay Gundogan is also back for the first time since August 2013.
"[Ilkay and Holger] have both had a long time of suffering behind them and fortunately this is now over for them," said Low.
"I was moved to see Holger and Ilkay back on the ball again and I was impressed with how quickly they have got back to a high level again.
"It's astonishing how they've dealt with the situation. They've worked hard over months and, despite several setbacks, they never lost their optimism."
Bayern Munich midfielder Schweinsteiger should lead the side out for the first time since being handed the captain's armband following the retirement of Philipp Lahm when Germany face Asian Cup winners Australia in a friendly in Kaiserslautern next Wednesday.
Four days later, the more serious business of Euro 2016 qualification is on the agenda in Tbilisi.
"Bastian is our captain and he's got great leadership qualities," Low said. "We need him on the field as much as we need him off it.
"To have him back is a great gain for us. I'm absolutely convinced that he will be able to latch on seamlessly to the strong performances he has been showing lately for Bayern in the Bundesliga and the Champions League."
