Damien Duff has reiterated his desire to return and play in the League of Ireland, stating that he will be back this summer looking for a club.

Duff, currently sidelined through injury, is contracted to Melbourne City in Australia, but confirmed to RTÉ last night that he will be back in April or May looking for a club.

"I think at times like that you miss the rain and the snow and the wind" - Damien Duff

When asked if he would consider following Robbie Keane and Sean St Ledger to the US, Duff was insistent Ireland was his next stop.

The Dubliner said: “The only flight I’ll be taking now is back to Dublin. I’ve enjoyed Australia, but I think Ireland will be my next port of call.

“People are probably sick of me saying it [finishing his career in Ireland] but, yeah I’ll be home now in the summer, end of April early May, and I’ll be home for good then, so I’ll be looking for a job, so that’s the plan.”

Duff went on to state his preference for the “wind and rain” of Ireland ahead of Australia’s heat, saying: “I think that’s in our blood, I’ve played in games over here in 40 degree heat and after 20 minutes you’re ready for the game to finish, so I think at times like that you miss the rain and the snow and the wind, so I’ll be looking forward to that side of it to be fair.”

In regards to his Australian experience Duff added: ”It’s been great. I always wanted to do something like that, whether it be the States or Oz just to go travel for a year.

“Obviously play football, but that’s out the window now so I will be travelling. But I always wanted to try a year abroad somewhere before I went home and I’m doing that now, ticked the box and, yeah, as I said, home is the next port of call.”
