Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a two-match ban following his red card in Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Cordoba on Saturday.
The Portugal international was sent off for the first time this season for kicking Cordoba's Edimar Fraga.
Ronaldo also slapped Jose Crespo during the win at Cordoba, but that went unnoticed by referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez.
After a meeting of Spanish football's disciplinary committee on Wednesday, a two-match ban for the Ballon d'Or winner was announced.
The 29-year-old will miss the next two La Liga games against Real Sociedad and Sevilla but will return in time for the derby against champions Atletico Madrid on February 7.
Ronaldo has had a remarkable season, scoring 28 goals and providing nine assists in just 18 league appearances.
Real lead the Primera Division standings, four points clear and with a game in hand ahead of defending La Liga champions and city rivals Atletico, who are third.
