Champions Raheny United returned to the top of the Continental Tyres Women's National League after a hard-earned 3-1 victory over Galway WFC at Eamonn Deacy Park today.
The Galwegians rocked Raheny after just two minutes when Ruth Fahy turned the ball home.
A number of impressive stops from home keeper Tina Hughes kept Galway in the lead but early in the second half United finally drew level through a Noelle Murray free-kick.
Galway's fortunes took a dip when they had Marie Curtin dismissed. Kate McCabe converted from the penalty spot to put Raheny ahead and then Noelle Murray sealed a 3-1 win with a late header.
Elsewhere, previous leaders Wexford Youths saw their game at Peamount United postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. A new date will be confirmed in due course.
On Saturday, Castlebar Celtic beat Cork City Women's FC 3-0 at Bishopstown.
Celtic opened the scoring in the tenth minute after good work from Emma Hansbury allowed the striker to chip keeper Trish Fennelly.
Vanessa Ogbonna chased down Brennan’s clearance but after getting to the ball steered her header just wide. Ciara Desmond then cracked a drive into the keeper’s arms after a smart back-heel turn.
Katie Melly put the visitors two up three minutes before the break after beating Shannon Carson for pace and rounding Fennelly to finish well.
Things got worse for the Leesiders when Rachel Kearns met Hansbury’s pass into the box and the ball looped over Fennelly to give the Mayo side an unassailable lead in the 53rd minute.
