Former Republic of Ireland international Colin Healy has signed a new contract with Cork City and will remain at Turner's Cross for the 2015 season.

Healy was one of the big driving forces behind Cork's title push this season and while his side were pipped to the post by Dundalk, the midfielder believes his side can build on the season and improved next year.

"It was a better season than we have had in recent years. We were a bit disappointed with how it finished, but overall it was a good season. There is a good group at the club, and I hope it will be a good year next year," he told Corkcityfc.ie

"European football is something we are looking forward to as a team, for the fans and the club. Hopefully 2015 will be a good year and a good experience for the young lads, and the club as a whole."

When asked what his aim for 2015 was, Healy’s answer was a short one: "To win the league."

City boss John Caulfield praised the midfielder as "a huge influence on the team last year" and "superb player in the dressing room and on the pitch."

The City boss added: "Colin knows where we are trying to get to in 2015; to make sure that we are back up there again and driving on. It is important for us to keep all of our best players, and I think Colin probably had his best season in a Cork City jersey last season.

"We are looking forward to next year and to Colin being at the top of his game, and driving the team forward again."
