Ireland Under-21 international Brian Lenihan has joined Blackpool on a one-month loan.

The former Cork City defender joined English Premier League side Hull City in August but has yet to make a first-team appearance for Steve Bruce’s side.

Blackpool are currently languishing at the foot of the Championship and Lenihan has become new manager Lee Clark’s fourth signing this week.

Blackpool boss Clark had previously watched Lenihan and knows the type of player that he is getting.

Speaking on the club website, Clark said: "We're short on defenders anyway in the football club but certainly with Tony (McMahon) being suspended we had to move very, very quickly. Thankfully my relationship with Steve meant that we could get the deal done quite quickly.

"I was watching him before he signed for Hull when I was Birmingham City manager. He's very attack-minded and he's got great energy to get up and down the park.

"I spoke to Steve Bruce and since he's been at Hull he's been very impressed by him. We're going to enjoy working with him."

Lenihan should be in line to make his debut this weekend at Elland Road as The Tangerines take on Leeds United on Saturday.
